Development of this baton followed similar processes that have been used in the development of components for Aerospace missions. This development process relies first on the specification of a set of design requirements followed by development of a specific design that will satisfy the requirements.

The design requirements for this baton were: |

Reduced bounce of the ball and tip so that if it were dropped, the baton would be closer to the performer. |

Improve the ability of the performer to hold on to the center of the baton, even if the grip area became wet from rain or perspiration. |

Develop a design so that if a baton were dropped, it would not roll far from the performer. ( it is much better to simply bend over to retrieve a dropped baton than to have to leave formation and run to the other end of the gym floor. |
